Laboratories.
When you tested positive, treatment began with GcMAF (in addition to antibiotics, nexavir and loads of supplements to be ordered from a specific Dutch company). I refused the XMRV PCR test in Feb 2010, but in his written report, after the results of the other tests had come in, he suggested that I was XMRV+.
When you tested negative, you were urged to take another XMRV/MLV test. I accepted to get tested for XMRV/MLV in Sep 2010 and when results were negative (he first didn't want to tell me) I was told to get tested again (not via blood test, but stomach biopsy). I refused any new XMRV/MLV tests, but when I received invitation for stomach biopsy the XMRV and MLV test were checked and included in the bill. (this was when I cancelled all future appointments and quit treatment)
Red Laboratories have a list of available tests on their website. I am wondering how many have real medical value and how many are woo.

PS: I am not into forums lately, but badscience seems like a good place to hang out.Johanhttp://www.pugilator.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441808374216966878.post-27659581371327394942012-02-11T14:10:25.021+00:002012-02-11T14:10:25.021+00:00@Johan
I’m not aware of any documentary evidence ...@Johan

I’m not aware of any documentary evidence that indicates contractual or ownership links between R.E.D Laboratories in Belgium and Redlabs/VIPdx in Nevada. The conceptual link is certainly the “work” of Dr. Robert Suhadolnik http://www.temple.edu/medicine/faculty/s/suhadolnikr.asp?pms=(suhadolnik%20R%5Bau%5D%20Temple%20University%5Baffiliation%5D), who is referenced on the R.E.D Labs website and under whom Vincent Lombardi studied. The WPI website CV for Lombardi states he ‘founded’ the US ‘Redlabs’, however there’s no current available data that confirms Lombardi having any legal ownership of Redlabs or even some preceding business that later became Redlabs. The Nevada business appears to have been set up in 2004 under the Whittemore ownership – the Lakeshore House partnership. Redlabs was transferred by various legal processes to a shared ownership with members of the Seeno family, via the Wingfield Holdings vehicle. A reasonable interpretation of how Redlabs came about is that Lombardi met the Whittemores circa 2002/3 through Peterson via links with Suhadolnik, and from there the Whittemores set up the company with Lombardi taking on a technical role. Perhaps Lombardi actually took the idea of a US counter-part to the Belgian R.E.D Laboratories, which is why he’s credited with ‘foundation’.

What de Meirlier’s relationship with the US operation was is not on public record – perhaps he gave informal advice on the set up, or maybe he was paid a consultancy. Redlabs seems to have operated as purely commercial enterprise with no high profile M.E/CFS related work being done until the XMRV test (the ‘trading as VIPdx’ epithet had been added by that stage), very likely Peterson and other M.E/CFS doctors were putting work through Redlabs but I’m nt aware of any direct patient involvement.

XMRV testing via R.E.D laboratories would seem to have been on some kind of contract basis, whereby the Belgian company acted as sample recipient and billing agent, with the actual test being done in Nevada – a similar arrangement was used in the UK, involving Biolab Medical Unit http://www.biolab.co.uk/ an operation that appears focussed on multiple woo based tests and listed on Dr Myhill’s website amongst others. I’ve written about a medical liability issue here: http://www.badscience.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16659&start=4825 - post #4846 , link bounces to page top - also some of the info on the US set up is not precise and needs to be read in relation to the details in the blog post here above for accuracy). It would be interesting to know if similar liability applied to Belgian doctors ordering through R.E.D Laboratories – for instance was de Meirlier or his proxy able to sign off on the tests or was only the patients appointed physician able to do so ? And if de Meirlier was the ordering physician what was he telling patients who returen a positive test result ?

IVIIn Vitro Infideliumhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05068874846299831588noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441808374216966878.post-89146722524071871172012-02-10T19:26:12.054+00:002012-02-10T19:26:12.054+00:00"You just couldn't make this up even if y..."You just couldn't make this up even if you wanted to!" I agree.

What about the Belgian Red Labs (http://www.redlabs.be)? Do you have any idea how they fit in the bigger picture? Their site still mentions that serum samples for XMRV testing will be sent to VIPdx. I seem to remember that De Meirleir was also involved with Red Labs in the USA.Johanhttp://www.pugilator.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1441808374216966878.post-47295262431862832252012-02-02T09:16:23.854+00:002012-02-02T09:16:23.854+00:00http://www.vegasinc.com/news/2012/feb/01/whittemor...http://www.vegasinc.com/news/2012/feb/01/whittemore-accuses-ex-partners-extortion-making-de/

You just couldn't make this up even if you wanted to! I doubt that the time Coffin spent on XMRV – even if he and his lab did nothing else than full time XMRV for 2 years – or the time spent by other labs will have any effect on say HIV research. But it definitely threw a monkey wrench in the work of people like Dan Peterson or Konnie Knox and stole time from the few biomedical researchers working on ME/CFS. I feel like we lost one year in ME/CFS research.

What really angers me is the vocal Mikovits cult that will pervade all internet discussions even if Mikovits should recant. I need to restrain myself and learn to focus the inconsistencies of her "work". I will see if Mikovits goes thermonuclear after the Lipkin study, or if she comes to her senses (I doubt the latter).Tony Machhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14823430729798784689noreply@blogger.com
